Avoid Water Damage, Avoid Costly Repairs

Water Damage Restoration

Although flooding inside your house is very easy to spot, there are instances wherein water damage is almost impossible to notice. Water and condensation would continue to seep through the walls, floors and other areas inside the house for an extended period of time. We will only notice this when it is too late for us. The damage has been done will require costly repairs. As a matter of fact, water damage restoration would cost thousands of dollars.

We may not be able to avoid water damage caused by flood, it is still possible for us to avoid certain causes of water damage. If you successfully avoid these possible causes, you would be able to save yourself from the possible headache you might have faced.

One of the simplest way to prevent water damage is to seal and insulate your windows and doors. Sometimes, rain water or snow would enter our homes because of the gaps coming from windows and doors. The continuous contact to rain and snow would lead to water damage.

Check your pipes regularly for faulty pipes and leaks. The reason for this is the fact that water damage is also caused by leaking pipes. If there are leaks, have them fixed. If there are signs of wear and tear, then replace your pipes before they would burst open.

Construct gutters and ditches for your house. Water damage would also happen if too much rain water accumulates around your home. Rain gutters must be clean and free of obstruction. If there’s obstruction present, rain water may flow somewhere else and it may seep through the roof or ceiling.

Inspect the roof for possible holes or damaged areas that may cause rain water to leak inside the house. If there’s positive signs of leak, fix the broken roof and address the damaged area before it worsens.

It is important to regulate the moisture level of your home. If the moisture levels of your home is not regulated condensation would occur. If water condenses a lot in your home, it would encourage mold growth, which not only damages your home but also endanger your health.

If you see water damage in your home, you should act right away to prevent further damage. Look for a professional and reliable company that would be able to restore the damaged area.

Potential Water Damage Hazards

Water damage is the worst thing that can happen to your home as it will keep acting in the house slowly if not properly handled. When water comes into your home, water damage is imminent, and you should not sit and assume that since it was a small amount of water, it might not have caused damage. It is best you get the house checked by a water removal professional to avoid cases of irreparable destruction in your home.

Water damage causes, even more, harm if you fail to dry properly off your house. Moist areas are notorious for harboring disease-causing microbes and mold. Mold thrives anywhere in a moist environment and can spread fast, and it will be all over the property in under 72 hours. It reproduces by spores, which are lightweight seeds that travel through the air.

Mold is recognizable from its damp musty smell and has hair-like filaments. Mold destroys organic material, and it soon destroys the material that it grows on. Mold also causes severe health problems to human beings. Mold will cause severe respiratory diseases to you if it grows in your house. You should root out mold once you spot it.

Flood water will travel fast, collecting waste and at times drowning people and animals that it finds in its path. The waste it collects will mostly contain disease-causing bacteria; that  may lead to a disease outbreak like cholera. It may take a lot of time to get this disease under control as the water may have covered a large area. This will cost the people and the government a lot of cash in trying to ensure that necessary precautions are done to prevent the spread of the disease to other areas.

Water damage can cause structural damage that remains unseen until it is too late. Water might penetrate into walls, and if not dried off well, the water will keep acting on the wall, until one time when the wall or part of the wall falls off, leaving the homeowner with extra cost to cover. Even if the house is restored, it is left with great compromised structural integrity, as your house will not look or even feel as it felt before the water damage.

Water damage leaves you with very high utility bills and wasted energy that goes into clean up and restoration.  You end up paying so much to get the house repainted and fixing a broken part, but you have no option but to do it.
